Urbanisation introduction

код для вставкиСкачать
List 5 things that
you associate
with a city…
They have to be things that
can’t be found anywhere
else…
• How do you define a city?
• How do we distinguish it from a town or a
village?
• E.g.Shanghai, China, uses a vast area of 6,000 square
kilometres to define itself. 19 million people live within
those boundaries, but the area covers large patches of
farmland as well as some villages.
• The city of London, Great Britain, on the other hand, has
more than 7 million inhabitants. But the city boundaries
used to define London do not include an extended
"metropolitan region". If considered as a metropolitan
region, London would have a population of 14 million.
Urbanisation Definition…
• Why do people move to cities?
• What does urbanisation mean to you?
• Why do you think it is considered to be such a
significant development?
Where are the world’s largest cities?
There are 17 megacities in the world – these are cities
with a population of over 10 million.
Where are the world’s largest cities?
